BET: Nas On Rap City 1999 (Video)

At this time Nas is one hottest rappers on the planet. I mean it was him, Jay & X. That was the line up with Nore, Ja & Pun comin up next. Nas' at that time was comin off hiatus from his last LP, doin things with the Firm, clothing line Willie Esco (which was dope but i never had any) & and a dope actin debut in Belly. I dont care what yall say for a actor makin his 1st film, him & DMX did damn good job. Creatin classic lines like "One" & "Thats ya man", those were the days. On this episode Nas talks about his new LP which was I Am at that time, state of hip-hop at that time and future projects. I remember hearing "Nas Is Like" for the 1st time and losing my mind. I couldnt believe Premier did it again with a classic joint, that track was crazy when it came out! Ok yall lets go back to '99 in which to me was the last year hip-hop was still hot and exclusive.

Blast From The Past Vol. 2: Group Home- Supa Star (Video)

Time for Vol.2, and this week's joint is Group Home's Supa Star. Now to be honest, i missed out on this track when it came out in '95. Didnt know much about Group Home at all really. So lets fast forward to '98-'99. I was lookin at a episode of Rap City and i guess it was a ol'skool hip-hop episode of past classics, and this track comes on. Now mind u i was already recoding vids from this episode, but when this came on right at the beginning i pressed record after a the 1st two lines of Melichi's (i think thats how its spelled) verse. I was hypnotized by this record. It changed my whole mode of thinking for a little while. I never heard a beat like that in my life. I always tell people that is my all-time fav. of DJ Premier, he freaked this one. But also the vid was dope as well. And that once again proves a point that a vid dont have to cost a whole bunch of money to be dope, thats what the 90s was about. One part of the vid that was real was when a old lady was gettin ready to walk by a group of niggas with bags in her hands and one dude hops up and walks to her like he was gettin ready to rob her but instead he helps her.

I remember i loved this song so much after that day, i recorded this song straight from the VCR onto a hand held voice recorder. I was rockin this song to death. So lets fast forward to late '99, i was actually able to cop Group Home's 1st LP. Speechless i tell u, speechless!! I just couldnt believe that a LP could sound like that, Primo had the heavens on his back while he was making this LP cause it was god like production. Every damn song on this LP was a banger (it was one track i didnt like, cant remember which tho).I was jammin this LP every day after i bought it for weeks on end. Til this day, i cant even tell u how many times i jammed this song, sometimes i can go 5-6X straight!! Lil Dap's flow was perfect on this man, "As the day turns to night as my stars shine bright" & "just like a rocket ship i go far ....superstar". Lil Dap also had a classic scene in the vid when they was in front of that liquor store and he was rhymin, u can see his niggas actually drinkin 40's while dancin to the beat!! Classic stuff man. Its not like this anymore man, and it will never be again. Check u later for vol. 3! Holla!
